About me

My name is Ronja Strikkers. As an Industrial Design student at Delft University of Technology, my main quality consist of keeping track of all aspects of a design problem, keeping the end goal in mind. Within the design process, I’m good at listening to every stakeholder, finding a golden balance of benefits, and incorporating it into a concept.

In July 2018, I got my Bachelor’s degree. During the last year of my Bachelor’s, I focused on Advanced Prototyping and Social Design as I enjoy crafting, and the interaction between people and products.

Besides that, I am interested and skilled in analyzing human behaviour. I want to use design to enrich the lives of the people and the planet. I don’t want to design trends, I want to offer actual value. Therefore, in September 2018, I started my Master’s of Design For Interaction at Delft University of Technology. I chose to do this specific master because it combines three of my main interests: design thinking, psychology and prototyping. Within this master’s, I my goal is to better understand the impact products have on people’s lives, their experiences, motivation, and their behaviour. I want to be an expert at the user perspective of products and services, and use this knowledge to design for rich experiences.

Project - Multifunctional Children's Play
For this project, I had to design playground equipment for kids from 8-10 years old. The main goal was to provoke physical exercise, combined with educating kids about a certain mechanism. I added the elements of competition and teamwork to the mix.

Project - ViP with JCDecaux
Within this project, I think I have had the most growth as a designer. I learned a lot about what I like and don't like, personal leadership, and presentation techniques.

For this project, we had to use the ViP method to design a future vision for a client, in our case, JCDecaux.
We had to combine individual work with teamwork and create a design statement as a team:

"We want to help shape cities that feel like home, where people of all cultures interact with and inspire each other and in this process strive towards a sense of synergy.”

My individual idea (the Gamepost) was chosen to further develop as a team.

Minor - Advanced Prototyping
During my minor, Advanced Prototyping, I did several smaller projects. Within every project, I learned new high-fidelity prototyping techniques like 3D-modelling and -printing, welding, milling and turning, and more. I designed and built my own lamp and silver earrings, and with a partner, I designed a watchtower for a park in Rotterdam.

Ultimaker Redesign - Cura Flow
For this master's project, I have been working in a team to make a redesign for Ultimaker, a Dutch producer of 3D-printers and fillaments. We were redesigning the software ecosystem surrounding their new, future context: the big factory floor. In this context, factory operators should be able to manage fleets of 10-40 network-connected printers at the same time.

"We want operators to be able to efficiently manage a fleet of printers with a feeling of control in factory workshops."

FLUXIT - "get creative!"
For this master's project, I have been working in a team to make an interactive environment to stimulate the creative mood. Our goal was to enable users to overcome creative blocks, by designing a space that would stimulate the user to explore, move around an create something just for the sake creating.

Pick'n Park - "The perfect break for truckers"
For this master's project, I have been working in a team to design a better break and parking experience for truck drivers. The goal of this project was to find an interesting lifestyle group, and to completely immerse ourselves in said group to find out their wishes and needs. That last part got a bit challenging, because of Covid-19, but I think we ended up with an interesting concept, that is designed to not only make the parking experience easier, but also to connect truckers from different backgrounds and cultures through food.
